My name is Howie and I was first diagnosed with diabetes in November of 1988. I was stunned by the diagnosis, because I did not have a family history of diabetes. I didn’t understand what it was going to mean until I was informed of my diet limitations, need for medication and exercise requirements. On top of all the restrictions, I was told there was a disagreement as to what type of diabetes I had. Some doctors thought type 1, others thought type 2.
Like many people, I originally began my treatment with strict modification to my diet, oral medications; and although I was not particularly overweight, I too began to include regular exercise. Within the first six months I was able to remove the medication and get by with diet alone. However, this change in my treatment regimen fell apart quickly and I began to have very high blood sugars. As a result, I was immediately convinced that taking daily shots was my only option.
This was a terrible way to live, and I continued it until I saw a new doctor in late 2006. He immediately informed me that I had type 1 diabetes and offered me new ideas in approaching my diabetes care by changing the types of insulin I used.
On a return visit in early 2007, Dr. McCowen suggested I might be interested in trying the i-port® by Patton Medical Devices. This became a revelation for me because the i-port® changed the quality of my life. Using the i-port® once every three days was so much easier than taking 4, 5, 6 shots a day into my stomach. Without the pain and bruising I was experiencing a much improved quality of life as a person with diabetes.
I having been using the i-port® for two years now and I am sold on how easy it is to use the i-port®. Additionally, any assistance or questions that I had have been handled by the great customer care team.

giving myself multiple injections of two types of insulin daily. |

KathyEdgewater, FLI was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about 15 years ago. I
came from a family with diabetes. Both my father and uncle had
it, and fortunately they both lived a long life with diabetes so
I knew that my diagnosis was not the worse thing that could
