I was diagnosed with type I diabetes when I returned from a European vacation a year and a half ago. It was a complete a shock. I always have had blood sugar issues, but this diagnosis has changed my life considerably. I have always been physically active so that was not a big change for me; but stopping the game and injecting was. I disliked being with a group of friends and having to excuse myself to take my insulin. Invariably, I was asked if everything was alright because I was gone so long. I take a low dose aspirin daily, so bruising was normal. I stopped using my arms as injection sites because the bruising was so noticeable. I considered the pump, but earlier in the year when I wore a blood sugar monitor for three days, I found that type of equipment to be cumbersome and inconvenient. The pump was not an option for me.
I was at my endocrinologist's office when I saw an i-port® sample on a display table. They sent me home with a pamphlet, and everything I read about it seemed to be exactly what I wanted. I researched the i-port® website as well as the internet for any information I could get, and after reading through everything, I was ecstatic. At my next follow-up appointment, I was given several samples and detailed instruction on how to use the i-port®. Initially, I was intimidated by the whole insertion process, but that soon disappeared after a couple insertions. The i-port® is so comfortable and pain free for me I have to search for its current location, and the bruising is a thing of the past!
Living with diabetes is challenging. I first felt I had no control of my life anymore, and felt different from "normal" people. There were times I felt isolated because I have to constantly monitor what I eat, when I eat, the amount I eat, and my level of exercise. If I decide to have a snack or underestimate an insulin dosage, the i-port® has made it easy to take a bolus. My A1C has improved, and with the help of the
i-port® I feel I have control back.

KathyEdgewater, FLI was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about 15 years ago. I
came from a family with diabetes. Both my father and uncle had
it, and fortunately they both lived a long life with diabetes so
I knew that my diagnosis was not the worse thing that could
