I was first diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes about 22 years ago. At first I was trying to control it with diet. Then I started taking oral medication along with the diet. About 17 years ago I started taking two insulin injections each day.
I now take six injections daily plus an oral medication. I don’t mind the needles but injecting 6 separate times is difficult to manage. I was in my doctor’s office when I saw a brochure on the i-port®. I took it home and read it, and decided to ask my doctor if this would be something I could use. Since it can be worn for 72 hours, this reduces the number of my injections from 18 to one stick. I also find it much easier to inject through the i-port® when I am traveling or out at a restaurant.
I would like to help others understand how the i-port® has helped me, and that it is easy to use. It has made such a difference in my diabetes care and I’m sure that others will find that it will make a difference for them also.
I work full-time as an administrative assistant and volunteer at my church as a -Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and once a month, I volunteer to count the weekly collections. I also teach a 5th grade Religious Education class and am a district representative for our civic association.
When I started taking injections, my son was only an infant. Now, he understands what can happen with me if my sugars drop too low, so he is always ready to help if needed. My son and I live with my father, and we all take care of each other from time to time. My picture shows me at my father’s 90th birthday celebration!

KathyEdgewater, FLI was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about 15 years ago. I
came from a family with diabetes. Both my father and uncle had
it, and fortunately they both lived a long life with diabetes so
I knew that my diagnosis was not the worse thing that could
