I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes fourteen years ago while in the hospital with a flu-like virus. Despite the fact that my sister had diabetes, I tried to deny that I had it, thinking for the first year that it just couldn’t be true. Because of my denial and lack of education about how to alter my lifestyle to better manage my diabetes; my blood sugar remained dangerously out of control. When I was finally put on insulin, I continued to have difficulty managing my blood sugar. When I finally saw an endocrinologist who prescribed an i-port® Injection Port, I began to see my diabetes control improve significantly. I’m now taking four injections per day through the i-port® and seeing my blood sugar numbers getting better and better. In addition, I’m now receiving education about diabetes and am more actively involved with my doctor in managing my diabetes. The i-port® is a pain-free alternative to multiple daily insulin injections. With better control, I’m able to work full-time, serve as a relief pastor at church, and do volunteer work with the Red Cross.
